she snores. often loudly. sometimes. there’s never any way to know when it will happen, so she always tells whomever sleeps in hearing range that she’s a terrible snorer who snores all the time. she figures the occasional manifestation is easier to take that way.

when she told him this, he laughed, ‘how bad can it be? i snore, too!’ and she grimaced mildly. women may or may not compete with one another, but no woman wants to compete with a man in snoring. let alone win. she figured time would be its own judge and she knew from experience what the outcome would be, so she didn’t reply.

the first morning she found him on the sofa, an extra pillow over his head, she almost laughed out loud. turns out he’s a very, very light sleeper. as light a sleeper as she is a heavy one. ‘opposites attract?’ she murmured hopefully under her breath. the girls in the attic tittered, but nothing more.

later that day, they spoke of it passingly, ‘you sure were right.’ she blushed, ‘you’ll find i don’t say things unless they’re true.’ he looked up from his book, ‘by the way, it doesn’t matter if you’re on your back or not.’ she could feel her blush deepen, ‘i see.’

she looked back over her shoulder, ‘i don’t like you sleeping on the sofa. you shouldn’t be put out of your own bed. if anyone should be sleeping on the sofa, it should be me.’ he chuckled and shook his head, ‘no way.’

this morning, when he found her on the sofa, he covered her with a light blanket and, when she woke and held her arms up for a hug, dispensed it with a bit of a shake, ‘i told you that you didn’t have to do this.’ to which she sleepily replied, ‘and i told you that it was better that i did than you did.’ his gusting huff of an exhale by her ear told her his retort was coming, ‘don’t make me shake you.’

hah. yes, the logic being infallible, a man rebutted will almost always turn to threats of violence. she giggled at the thought, knowing it for extremism even as it was applicable. ‘i still think you give the best hugs i’ve ever had.’

‘you’re a very huggable woman. a silly, stubborn woman, but very, very huggable.’ she smiled even more widely as his hug tightened in response, and kissed him on the neck.
