all i have

this made my brain pop. and then, gave me a silly little poem.

this is all i have
it probably isn’t much
but it’s the best i can give
hope you see it as such
i’ve waited a long time
to smile and give it away
through spring
through summer
through autumn
through winter’s coldest day
i thought i gave it away before
but i found it in the dirt
for a while i couldn’t loose it
that memory, it still hurt
then the day came when i
finally began to see
i give it away every day, besides,
it never really belonged to me
i give it away every day
to him, and her, and them
i give to total strangers, especially
the ones that are grim
this is a childish rhyme
elementary cadence and verse
innocent and artless
funny
how that sometimes is just what works
simple things are purest
i think you will nod and agree
the complex is rarely truest
sometimes you just have to be
so if you would, take this
you see
this is all i really have
a wish to smile and be a friend
a wish to soothe, be salve
pardon the bruises and scars of it
i tried to keep it safe
maybe you’ll do a better job
than this silly, goofy waif
so take this, would you please
i give it to you freely
always and in all ways, have
for all sometimes it is not seemly
