hi there. first, a hug to you… thank you for the care of this note.
i’m actually ok with what’s happening, though admittedly, it is a bit
of a rollercoaster ride. heh.

i find the buddhism has helped in this, i’m not falling apart, and
surprisingly, i’m not even angry. strangely empty… but in the good
‘no attachment, no aversion’ way. just something that has happened.
which is kind of cool.

funny you mention bricks. i just read a story the other day by a
buddhist monk in which he talks about this brick wall he had to build
long ago, and how two of the bricks weren’t aligned properly and the
resulting wall was an embarrassment to him. he wanted to tear it down
and rebuild it, make it ‘right’, ‘perfect’.

the abbot (head monk) wouldn’t let him. over time, as he gave tours of
the monastery, he’d always avoid that brick wall, not wanting others
to see the two, ugly bricks. then, one day, he had a visitor on tour
and was so engrossed in conversation with them that he forgot, and
they walked right by the wall. the tourist looked and said, ‘what a
great wall!’ and the monk immediately cringed and said, ‘oh, no, that
wall is a mess. just look at those two, ugly bricks.’

the tourist, looking, said, ‘yeah, those are ugly, but the other 998
of them are perfect… and it is a great wall anyway.’

perspective. the whole ‘suchness’ concept in one neat parable. the
monk was so absorbed in avoiding the two ugly bricks that he had
completely forgotten the beauty of the other 998.

it struck me profound when i read it. as much of the study here has
over these last months. and i find it interesting how those thoughts
and lessons sink in, even without direct effort… and that, in this
moment, rather than sit here and complain about my two ugly bricks, i
can instead smile for the 998 and just walk on by.

you’re right, the phoenix ever rises. and yes, this too, shall pass.

thank you again, my friend. (hug)
