on the road

well. here it is. writing from work, i’m informed that my first client is lined up. fortunate, they seem to be starting me up easy… though in truth, they’re setting me in front of their most important client thusfar (investment in place) which is at once exciting and a little intimidating.

ceo called me in this morning to ask ‘did i feel comfortable’ with the notion of getting on the client-facing side of things. heh. i’m always up for that, but i was a little concerned that i might be getting asked to integrate at this point, and there’s still a bit i’d like to settle into the back of my head in order for me to be comfortable there.

heh. of course the funny part was — i’ve been telling them for as couple of weeks now that it is impossible for me to crank out the internal and reference documentation they want and be on the road or in front of clients at the same time. the positioning from the ceo today was that everything else could take ‘the back burner’… but in truth, it’s going to be off the stove as soon as i get into ‘make the customer happy’ mode.

after this one, i’m already lined up for the next one… also “local” as in within the state, but stretching a little further afield. and i suspect this is to give me the two installation cycles necessary to have me prepped/ready for cophenhagen later this year. which is exciting.

so… all that’s left is to have the conversation about the ramp up in salary that was discussed when i came on board. it was agreed that i was coming in lower initially as more of a ‘feel each other out, make sure i have what it takes, etc’ venture, but that when i made the shift into professional services mode, this would take place.

a polite note to our hr department and then, to get the suits dry-cleaned. heh.

a happy monday. 🙂
