for some reason, this is in my mind lately. which is odd, because i have sworn off politics.
collective disturbance? multiverse in flux? am i passing too close to another path and feeling the shift? who knows. but since it’s here… putting it here.
Simply — no elected official should be paid. It is a SERVICE position, those who wish to serve should do so as servants of the people. Guarantee you if this were the case, not only would there not be ‘life time politicians’ unless they were truly committed to helping others, it would insure the truly dedicated (to service, others, the people, etc.) were there… since no one else would want the job.
Granted, that is an over-simplification… but it is certainly actionable. And would, I think, go a long way in a very short period of time.
If those who served had to make a living like the rest of us, chances are they’d care a heck of a lot more about how what they decide affects everyone.
It would also insure things like political lobby, particularly that which is founded in campaign finance and related areas, is completely overthrown.
Finally, it would mean opening the field a bit for the average citizen with an interest in serving could get the manner of respect, attention, and scrutiny they should have… at the moment it is laughable to even consider running for office on any level unless you’ve already somehow in the pocket of the financiers. That’s just wrong.
