the stone, rolling
no moss, no care, heedless
pell mell rushing
over mulch and meadow
beyond gullies of grass
tumbling swift, igneous urgent
seeking level ground
a bounce, a rut,
resting, while trembling,
rocking rockness shifts
shimmies, stumbling over ridge,
over lip, over eager
oh push forward
striated straining, somersaults
pitted, peppered, pock-marked
pitching over ditch
bounce once, twice, thrice
skimming shore then surface
at last
simple seeking submerges
shiver into silt and silence
nestle into nothingness
settle with soft sighs
smooth, slick, and sage
singing of surrender as
i throw you away
deep inside
