Dana

Once upon a time, I was a photographer. It’s not something that will be found on my resume, and even the stock images have long ago rolled out of their licenses (which is as well; the negatives were lost in the chaos that was the dot com bust).

I haven’t owned anything fancier than a PowerShot SX130 since, oh, about 1996. I play at taking shots, but frankly, most of the things I’d like to do simply are not possible with the 130. Yet, on occasion, I get a shot that reminds me of time spent on apertures, shutter speed, and such; and, for a moment, I have “that itch” to spend far too much on something I’m likely only to use on the very rarest of occasions in my life as it is today.

This shot, of our newest companion, Dana, is one such item. Mind you, I could pick at least a dozen nits with this image… but I won’t because those things it got right are just beautiful to me.

Dana is Sanskrit for “generosity” and it was not until I settled on his name that I realized I now have three cats whose names begin with the letter “D”. This, of course, reminds me that my son’s name also starts with “D”. I chuckle and ponder what possible associations buried in my head create this outcome but, ultimately, it’s an idle “coincidence”.

Anyway… this is Dana; and I doubt seriously I could have managed better in capturing his attitude, personality, and liveliness.
