Track Title: The Self-Care Song

ASCAP Registration #: 929073436

Sometimes it feels like the rain always comes our way

Sometimes it feels like memories and pain are here to stay

No matter how it feels, all things from us pass away

This too, shall pass, and things will again be okay

We have some tools that can help us keep our peace

Use them often to keep focus and make the chaos cease

First up, though simple, deceptively misleading

Use breath to train the body, send stress receding

Easiest programming a human can ever do

Anywhere you breathe — this one you can pursue

Four seconds in, then four seconds out,

Peaceful, rhythmic breath is what it’s all about

Next, the practice of attuning to the body

Oft ignored or suppressed, tends to get a little grotty

Notice each part, think about your internals

The body keeps history, everything it journals

Take an inventory, to relax and unwind

It’s part of self-care, so don’t leave it behind

Then we have a thing called grounding

It centers and restores when life’s been pounding

Every sense has input, something to convey

Check in with them all, hear what they try to say

Just like a bike or car, that helps you get around

Check-ups of your body — required to keep you sound

And of course, we have the matter of hydration

When without, profoundly affect your cogitation

Have three liters of clean water, each and every day

To maintain your inner systems and keep illness away

Water is life’s conduit, all things require its presence

Cool and clean, regenerative, surprisingly pleasant

Physical activity, no matter how much or long

Being in nature, keeps mind and body strong

Gratitude instead of things for which we long

Journal experience, reminds how we belong

Last but not least, the need for human touch

Wraps or hugs or closeness, doesn’t take that much

Finally, the most important thing you can learn to be

Is still and quietly observant, relaxed and in it, free.

May this self-care song find you when you need it

May it serve you well and long, if not please repeat it…
