apple, bootcamp, mac love

i swear, every time i think i’ve come to the place where i cannot possibly appreciate and adore Apple, i find something new and i’m all giddy happy full of LERVE for them. heh.

as you may know if you’re a mac user, there aren’t a lot in the way of MMO game company love. a good many of the games i once enjoyed i couldn’t play anymore because they don’t have MAC clients.

now i could rant on that a bit, but i won’t. i don’t have to. because Apple loves me and they showed it by making bootcamp.

i was really rather wary of trying to get it installed and running, but i should have know better. it’s a fact — Apple stuff… just… works. this adventure back into microsoft land using bootcamp has definitely proven it.

just to underscore the point, i’ll tell you that my printer wasn’t being cooperative and so i had to do this without the documentation. now there’s a leap of faith.

the bootcamp install partitioned the drive very nicely, i booted into it and installed XP SP2, though i forgot to set the file management system to NTFS so i had one ‘heart stopping’ moment when the install finished and it restarted only to tell me ‘disk error… press any key to reboot’.

but i eventually figured out the matter and reformatted NTFS and re-installed and from there, it was absolutely smooth sailing.

the MAC leopard install disk, inserted, knew just what to do and i’m writing this from the microsoft side of the world… everything just works. heh.and now, i’m downloading a game i thought i’d never get to enjoy again. happy me.

i suppose it is worth saying that the only thing i will EVER use microsoft, XP, or otherwise for in the rest of my life will be gaming. and only then until these companies get their heads out of their butts and make the leap of logic that draws a nice, thick line between “Creative Apple/MAC users” and “PEOPLE WHO LIKE GAMES”.

interestingly, the only company who seems to have gotten it right is Blizzard. kind of sad, that. you’d think with as much time at it, Sony and the rest of the folks would get a frakking clue.

anyway. this is me… happy MAC user because apparently, Apple can even make Windows work properly and let’s face it, that’s a damn feat.
