Revisiting for follow-ups this week; Metformin dose being doubled in light of positive effort and dietary changes on my part. (Apparently, the doctor was in need of seeing it to decide if Metformin would be enough or if she was going to have to put me on Insulin; good grief, the notion that people might be in my situation and NOT take it seriously and make significant changes to their lifestyle and dietary choices to mitigate is both boggling and sad. Quite literally, it makes me feel badly for them…. as I said to someone earlier today, “Life is much […]
Dear BP (and to those who care and are willing to ACT):
As I’m sure you are aware, the disaster in the Gulf is spreading and apparently, neither BP nor our government have solutions. But there is a group of people working in conjunction with salons and pet stores, grooming facilities, and related places that do have at least a solution for containment and clean-up: Hair, Fur, and Fleece booms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj_mna5lckg Matter of Trust is a group coordinating and distributing hair, fur, and fleece booms to assist in the containment and clean-up and YOU can help!! As a customer, a concerned citizen, and a supporter of citizen involvement on behalf of our planet, […]
Vacation’s End Update
Last day of vacation, follow-up doctor visits continue (while I fear the arrival of their bills in the face of the annual deductible). My friend (S) is here through the coming Sunday and then, it will be back to “life as usual” until the move in July (which i am very much looking forward to!). I am feeling better, thanks to the medication and changes to diet over the last two weeks. Sugars are dropping slowly; I am not consistently in the 160 – 220 range (which, while absurdly high from a “normal” perspective, is a great deal improved from […]
Afterthought: Odd call
About a week or so ago, in the midst of all the diabetes mess, my phone received a call that I missed. Whomever it was left an odd little voicemail stating that, “I miss talking with you” and nothing more; no name. I called the number back and left a voicemail. I thought I recognized the voice, but I could have been mistaken. The number now states it is out of service. I am decidedly curious about who would call me and yet, leave me no way to resume contact with them. If, by some chance, you are reading this, […]
Holiday weekend update
I’ve spent the last week on vacation, enjoying the company of a friend who traveled from Alaska to visit. It has been a remarkably peaceful and fun time. In this midst of this, I am also working to stabilize my situation with diabetes; a thing that has resulted in rather dramatic changes in food choices as well as more than a little research to broaden my awareness of both food production, the effects of simple (versus complex) carbohydrates, and the specifics of how Metformin interacts with the body to produce the beneficial result it provides. My biggest discovery this week […]
First day of vacation
An unusually nice and enjoyable day! Sugars are low (for me; barely over 200 and dropping… think I’m starting to get the hang of this!), the day is beautiful, and I spent the last three hours at a spa being pampered as much as a woman might be excepting the presence of a penis. (grin) Massage, facial, manicure, pedicure, and finally home; feeling all relaxed and comfortable. Today is only barely half through! An assignment to finish for the weekend, domestic duty spinning up (in preparation for (S) arriving tomorrow) and then, a nice dinner and I think a bit […]
Insurance classes and a surprise spasm
Unexpected bit of emotion today. I have to attend Diabetes “training” for things like how to use the glucometer (even though I’ve been using it all this week), dietary changes (which will be helpful), and related things to keep an mindful eye upon… during the registration process by phone, the nurse was asking me questions, confirming information, etc (all of this is required to get discounts and approvals by the insurance company that provides coverage) and she asked me a question that didn’t seem like such a big deal at the time but, after hanging up, I found it actually […]
Quote for the night
“The philosopher neither sees nor hears the so-called unwritten laws of the city; the mores and conventions that govern public life. The philosopher shows no respect for rank or privilege; is unaware of one’s high or low birth. It does not occur to the philosopher to join a political club or a private party; the philos…opher’s body alone dwells within the city’s walls. In thought, they are elsewhere.” – Socrates
Elliott Bay Books (and more)
Finally got the chance to cruise this place. Nice setup and atmosphere; all creaking floorboards and the slight scent of something that roughly approximates must. A fairly eclectic inventory, though not enough science fiction or fantasy for my liking, but I forgive them for it because of the excellent expanse of Buddhist works. I picked up Trungpa’s “Ocean of Dharma” and Chodron’s “No Time To Lose” and will be making my way through them slowly as practice takes the stage for the next while. On the more entertaining side, I selected Gibson’s “Idoru” and for inspiration and general delight, Macy […]
Day Two Review
I’d usually say two days is far too short to have an effective status on anything but, in this case, the numbers tell the tale (and are pretty fooking amazing): first glucometer reading last night was 384 (panic-inducing) with the first Metformin tablet oozing into my system and tearing up my stomach in the process. The morning’s reading was an amazing 151. The afternoon reading was 181, but expected after a lunch. Second dose went down the hatch with lunch and the next reading is tonight at 10pm, but I think it is safe to say the crisis is largely […]
